August 2nd we left Yellowstone and heaede for the Grand Tetons. We drove south in Idaho and crossed the mountains at teton pass. 5 miles of 10% grade up one side and down the other. 10 miles total and boy were the breakes hot after comming down. Just arriving at the campground on the Gros Ventre river we were held up by some Bison

After we got into camp and set up we walked down to the river and met up with a moose.

There are lots of lakes here so we will try to paddle on as many as we can.

We will be in the Grand tetons for a few more days and there is wifi here some we will keep posting more pics.

We left Priest lake and headed for Yellowstone. We stayed at Henery Lake SP south of West Yellowstone. When we arrived we had a short shower that produced a double rainbow.

We spent 5 days touring Yellowstone and have so many pictures it was hard to pick some to post but here are a few.

July 17th We left Canada heading back into Idaho to Round lake. it wa sok but not much so we went to Priest Lake. We found a nice forrestry site and did some paddling on the lake. the 1st day the banks were lined with houses so no good pics. the 2nd day we went up to the north end of the lake where there were no housed and had a goo paddle with good scenery.

as we headed back to the ramp we noticed that a thunder storm was moving in so we rushed back and got the canoe on the truck and started back just as the storm hit. we thought that we werte lucky and did not get rained on but were we wrong.

as we headed back on the narrow backwoods road the wind blew so hard that trees started snapping off and blocking the road we had to stop behind 2 othe cars trapped on the road.

we were worried and about 4 more cars came up behind us. finally a dump truck came up and and he had a chain saw. so we all got out in the rain and started cutting trees and hauling then out of the road.

We had to cut our way thru 35 to 40 trees when we met a forrest service truck leading a ambulance coming tward us. they passed by and left us a clear way out. we passed many more downed trees and one had fallen just in front of an SUV and they had crashed into it but were OK. they had a long line of lg campers behind then that could not get thru.

We got back to camp and the sky was clearing and the rest of the night was clear and uneventfull.

July 22 we headed to Lolo Montana and camped a a forrestry site at Lolo creek. the Lewis and Clark trail and the Nez Perse trails pass right by the camp. we hiked some of the trail and it was steep narrow and rugged.

July 24 we woke up to 40 degrees and headed for Lake Como, a forrestry site but it had electric. We stopped at Big Hole national Battlefield where the army massacered a large of Nez Perce indians. the site was heart renching. At Lake Como we paddled around the lake and saw that there might be a water fall at the other end so we planned to hike to it the next day.

The falls is really wonderfull. The rocks along the side are not slippery so you can walk right along the water. sally took some goe video.

On the way around Syringa lake we got to see some Bighon sheep,

and we visited Tulip falls before we moved back to Idaho.

We camped at round lake which turned out to be a small pond and we did not even put the canoe in the water. the next day we moved up to Priest lake to do some paddling.

We went for a nice paddle and as we headed back we noticed some thunder stormes were moving in. We hurried back and got the canoe on the truck and felt glasd we made it in before we got wet. but we were mistaken. the storm knocked down trees all along the small road around the lake and we were stranded. lucky a man came along from a excavating company in a dump truck and he had a chain saw. So we started a caravan of about 5 vehicles he did the sawing and we all pulled the trees from the road. we had to cut about 25 to 30 trees from the road over about 5 miles. We finally met up with an ambulance coming the other way. they had a forrestry truck ahead of them cutting trees from the road so the could reach some injured people.so the rest of the way back was clear for us. what an adventure.

From the powerlines we moved to lake Chelan. This is quiet a tourist lake. the campground is like the beaches, the sites are packed right on top of one another. Not much to reccomend and no pictures.


Canada is our next stop at a lake called Syringa near Castlegar in British Columbia Canada.

The campground was full when we arrived but they said that ther should be sites open the next day and let us stay in the day use parking lot over night.

The next day we got a nice site right on the lake/river.

The banks are loaded with drift wood from the logging going on up stream.

The next morning Sally wakes me up at 6am to see a large tug pulling a giant raft of logs down the lake.

A little while later two more smaller tugs show up and take the lograft apart according to colored markers attached to the different sections. This was quite an opperation.lots of fun to watch through the binoculars.

And more logs down by the plant and dam.

From there we had some trouble finding a spot to camp and wound up at a park right under some power lines. But it had A.C. cause it was really hot. Good for one night only.

Then moving further east we stopped just past Mt Rainier at a campground called La Wis Wis and did some more paddling.

We moved inland where it was much warmer. We camped a Stub Stewart park and went paddling in a nearby lake.

We moved up the coast to Washington but it was rainy and cold at Desperation but as we left we got some excitement a camper caught on fire and we couldn’t leave until it was put out. We could not even use it to roast marshmallows

We are now at Walport and the wind come stadily off the Pacific and bends all the trees tward the land.

The beach here is 200 yards wide and NO drift wood.

It was too rainy in the redwood so we heades north. we stayed at Sunset Bay state park and paddled in the protected bya and even ventured out into the Pacific because it was so calm.

From the top of the cliffs you can just see the lighthouse across the bays.

you could ever hear the sealions barking in the distance.

We went down to a small beach and decided to climb this rock ridge.

After gold beach we went up the mountain and camped next to the Rouge River.

Gold beach was covered with drift wood and cars even drove on the beach.

We stayed  at the Redwood National Park for a few days and Sally got to hug her Redwood tree.

We left Idaho and cut across Oregon on the way to Redwood NP in California. We stopped at Crater Lake on the way.

Sally and Queenie both enloyed the snow.

We are now in the town of Cascade Id. at Sugarloaf camp ground over looking Lake Cascade. It is a sunny valley with the snow caped mountains across the lake.

We went paddeling on the lake yesterday. There was no wind and the mountains reflected in the water.
We will be here until Sunday the 17th and then on to Oregon.

The camp ground here is called last chance and is at 5780 ft. It is very wooded and the streeam rushes by the camp. The temp in the day time is only 56 and at night it was 33. A little too cold for us so down the mountain we go.

we are now at Payett Lake in the town of McCall staying at Ponderosa State park.

there are lots of huge pine trees.

lots of hiking trails and fantastic views.

The campground is very busy and most sites are reserved for the weekend so we are moving to a forrestry site up in the mountains.

                                                       Scofield Northern Utah

Pleasand Vally 7842 feet.

This was a lovely vally with soft molded mountains, cold water, 89 in the day time 33 (Brrrr) at night.We canoed and hiked thru the sage brush Saw lots of prarie dogsand queenie chased them and got very frustrated

The camp ground was nearly empty and we had a nice spot with the mountains behind and the ;lake in front.

We are heading to Idaho tomorrow June 4th.

                                                             MOAB UTAH AREA

We got to the Windwhistle campground  about 20 min south of Moab. No water or electric but cool at night. Temps from 88 in the day to 53 at night.

We visited Canyon lands and Arches NPs and got lots of pics but Queenie was not allowed out of the truck so we just did an auto tour.
